Injection-moulded PE or PVC: the difference

The needles of artificial Christmas trees are made of injection-moulded PE, of PVC or of a mixture of both. The material determines how the tree looks close up, how full it appears and what it costs.

Injection-moulded PE

In injection moulding, polyethylene (PE) is injected into moulds. Each needle is created individually and in three dimensions. The process is more complex, which is why trees made of 100 % injection moulding are more expensive.

PVC

PVC needles are cut from film and twisted. They are flat but make the tree look dense and full.

The mix of both

Mixed trees put injection-moulded needles on the visible branch tips and PVC branches inside. The result is a full tree at a lower price than 100 % injection moulding.

What applies to both materials

  • The tree does not drop needles and needs no water. It contains no resin and no pollen.
  • The fire behaviour of the needle material of both HÅVN trees is tested to 16 CFR 1500.3(c)(6)(vi). Candles and open flames still do not belong on the tree.
  • Both trees are tested for harmful substances: no detectable phthalates, PAHs, lead or cadmium.
  • A dry cloth is enough for care. Store dry and away from light in the bag.
  • Both trees are intended for indoor use.
